Offshore Wind North East, the national conference and exhibition that took place in the North East England at the end of 2021 and where HOS were delighted to exhibit, will generate an estimated £1.45m in new work for businesses in attendance.
Held in Sunderland at the start of December and organised by NOF and supported by North East England’s offshore wind cluster, Energi Coast, the event attracted around 750 delegates and 130 exhibitors.
Post event findings identified a number of companies that expect to win significant orders as a result of attending.
At the event it was also announced that Moray West has selected the Siemens Energy/Lemants consortium for the supply of the project’s two offshore substation platforms using Siemens Energy’s proven Offshore Transformer Module (OTM®) technology.
Lemants is a subsidiary of Smulders, alongside Smulders Projects UK, based in Wallsend, Newcastle. The contract is subject to the award of a Contract for Difference in 2022 and Financial Close. A key part of the selection was how the Siemens Energy/Lemants consortium will bring assembly and fit out of the OTMs to the Smulders Projects UK yard.
OWNE was sponsored by strategic event partners Dogger Bank Wind Farm, GE Renewable Energy, Sofia Offshore Wind Farm and MPI Offshore/Van Oord, with a face-to-face OWNE returning for the first time since the pandemic.
Joanne Leng MBE, Chief Executive of NOF, said: “Our members and the wider supply chain were extremely keen to see face to face events returning and we managed to do this for OWNE. Delegates really appreciated this and the feedback we have received, and news of new work secured also highlights the power of face-to-face interaction and networking at events like Offshore Wind North East to generate actual new business opportunities.”
HOS managing director, Don Fenwick, was delighted to have the opportunity to exhibit at the prestigious event, commenting, “The Offshore Wind conference was a fantastic opportunity for HOS to showcase our products and services to the renewable energy sector, especially as this is one of the first face to face events to be held following the Covid pandemic.
Having been based in Sunderland for over 30 years, to have the conference within three miles of our office was fantastic for us and fantastically promoted our region as being at the forefront of green energy. It was great to catch up with attendees and fellow exhibitors at the event and hear from many companies on their future plans and projects, we’re looking forward to further increasing our customer base within the sector and becoming a valuable member of the renewable energy supply chain.”
