Two employees at Sunderland based hydraulics company Hydraulic & Offshore Supplies (HOS) are celebrating as they successfully achieve the NEBOSH Health and Safety qualification.
With health and safety being a major focus within the business, hose technicians Laura Fenwick and Emily Stronge-Taylor, successfully gained the widely respected qualification and are looking forward to implementing their new found knowledge.
HOS, who are part of the R&G Group of Companies, have been based on Sunderland’s riverside for over 30 years, providing expert fluid power products and services to organisations across the globe, servicing sectors including oil and gas, renewables, automotive, engineering and ship management.
Laura and Emily, who have been with the business for three years, were keen to learn more about occupational health and safety and further embed a safety culture within the business.
The NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is the gold standard in qualifications. Relevant to every workplace, it can help to minimise workplace injuries and illness, boost employee wellbeing and demonstrates an organisations commitment to health and safety.
On gaining the qualification, Laura commented, ‘I was really pleased to complete the qualification and delighted with the successful result, many of the industries we support work in very challenging conditions where health and safety and quality is of utmost importance. Learning more about embedding a health and safety culture within the company will definitely help us demonstrate our commitment to our customers. Emily and I have already carried out our first internal audits and look forward to continually develop our internal processes and procedures to ensure our workforce are safe and their wellbeing is the best it can be.’
HOS managing director, Don Fenwick, was delighted that Emily and Laura had passed the qualification, commenting, ‘Our clients know that health and safety is of paramount important to our business, particularly in the industries we work with where there can be many challenges. It’s vital for us to continually develop our staff to ensure they are working to the best of their ability, can implement new ideas and improve the offering to our clients.
Gaining a NEBOSH qualification is not easy so a big thank you goes to Laura and Emily for being eager to learn and putting in the study hours. I’m sure their new found knowledge and experience will only enhance the service we provide to our clients.’
