As supporters of STEM (science, technology, engineering & maths) subjects within the north east area, we are proud to be exhibiting at the upcoming Bring It On exhibition.
Held at Sunderland’s Beacon of Light on the 12th & 13th of October, the exhibition is the place to be for future engineers. Targeted at young people aged between 9-14, it aims to raise the aspirations of north east youngsters and contribute to closing the engineering skills gap in the region.
There will be six different areas of engineering within the exhibition including biotechnology, automotive, digital technology, construction and oil & gas. A new addition to this year’s area is ‘The Road to Net Zero’, this will showcase the innovative engineering solutions local engineering companies are developing and implementing to help the UK deliver on its commitment to reach Net Zero emissions by 2050.
Local primary and secondary schools in the north east are encouraged to attend the free event which promises to be inspirational and educational with lots of interactive activities available.
HOS managing director, Don Fenwick, was delighted to once again support such a great event within the region, commenting, ‘As an engineering company within the north east, it’s extremely important to us as a business to showcase the industry and inspire the younger generation to become involved in STEM subjects.
Whilst the UK is experiencing a skills shortage in STEM areas, it’s vital that we engage with young people, explain the benefits of working in the sector and the amazing opportunities it can bring.
We work hard to promote diversity within the industry and are extremely proud to employ two female hose technicians within our company and have a 50:50 male/female split within our workforce.
Attending the Bring It On exhibition gives us a great opportunity to show young people within our area what we manufacture and engineer and how they work in everyday life. We will have interactive displays and are looking forward to showcasing our products and getting the children involved with our hydraulic themed activities.’
