Hydraulic hose collapse problem solved for renewable sector client

12th July 2021

Introduction

We were delighted to work with the UK’s leading technology innovation and research centre for offshore renewable energy on a recent project.

Our client plays a key role in delivering the UK’s net zero targets, using facilities, research and engineering capabilities to bring together industry and drive innovation in renewable energy.

The Problem

Our client were experiencing hose assembly collapse due to the integrity of the hose structure being incapable of handling temperature and return flow, this in turn was creating a vacuum.

We were approached to investigate the collapse and conduct research into finding a solution.

The Solution

Following a site investigation by our technicians and further project meetings with our client, we planned our work
scope to ensure minimum disruption to the workshop.

Following all Covid-19 health and safety precautions, our technicians attended the site and removed the flexible hose
assemblies. At our workshop in Sunderland, we proceeded to manufacture bespoke 316 stainless steel welded pipe
spools, we revisited the site to ensure safe installation of all parts.

Summary

Following our rapid intervention and research, we ensured minimum downtime to the renewable centre, the  problem with the collapsing hose assemblies was identified with a solution being sourced.

The work our technicians carried out ensured the plant could continue their work with zero downtime due to the
hose problem.

“This project was potentially tricky as not only were we tasked with identifying the hose assembly problem but
we also had to ensure minimum downtime for our client whilst also adhering to Covid-19 restrictions. I’m
delighted that our technical team were quick to respond to the problem, discovered the issue and how to
rectify this to ensure our customer could continue with their valuable work within the renewable sector.”
